Backstage Whispers overheard by Richard Andrews

The Public Theater will stage the musical A Second Chance, book, music and lyrics by Ted Shen, the New York set story of a recent widower and a divorcee who meet in mid-life and mid-crisis, with Brian and Diane Sutherland, directed by Jonathan Butterell, from March 18th. The Public Theater is located at 425 Lafayette Street, between Astor Place and West 4th Street.

Robert Sternin and Prudence Fraser's Under My Skin, a comedy in which New York's most eligible bachelor and a single, working mother experience each other's lives, and see things from a very different perspective, directed by Kirsten Sanderson, will open at The Little Shubert Theatre this spring. The producers are Marla McNally Phillips and Marcy Carsey. The Little Shubert Theatre is located at 422 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues.

Urban Stages will stage the premiere of Character Man, a musical memoir written and performed by Jim Brochu, about the character actors of Broadway, featuring theatre stories and personal recollections, plus the music and lyrics of great musical theatre writers, directed by Robert Bartley, previewing from February 28th, opening March 5th. Urban Stages is located at 259 West 30th Street, between 7th and 8th Avenues.

On The Casting Couch: Matt Doyle, Allison Scagliotti, Ben Crawford, Andi Alhadeff, Leo Ash Evens, Danyel Fulton, F Michael Haynie, John-Michael Lyles and Bonnie Milligan will feature in the Hunter Foster-Ryan Scott Oliver musical Jasper In Deadland, opening at the West End Theatre in the Church of St Paul and St Andrew on March 26th; Barrett Wilbert Weed, Ryan McCartan, Jessica Keenan Wynn, Elle McLemore, Alice Lee and Anthony Crivello will feature in Laurence O'Keefe and Kevin Murphy's Heathers The Musical, opening at New World Stages on March 31st; and John Cullum and Patrick Page will be joined by Reed Birney, Gabriel Ebert, Lisa Emery, Tom McGowan, Larry Pine, Nick Westrate and Mare Winningham in Harvey Fierstein's Casa Valentina, opening at the Samuel J Friedman Theatre on April 23rd.

Kindling Theatre Company will stage the premiere of Emily Schwend's Take Me Back, examining the impossibility of the American dream when surrounded by nothing but minimum wage Big Box stores and chain restaurants, with Charlotte Booker, Jay Eisenberg, James Kautz and Boo Killebrew, directed by Jay Stull, previewing from February 28th at Walkerspace, opening on March 5th. Walkerspace is located at 46 Walker Street, between Broadway and Church Street.

Fuerza Bruta Wayra, a new version of the show in which audiences are immersed in a series of 'experiences' as performers weave around, above and among them, to an accompaniment of pulsating music, by the Argentinean company that created De La Guarda, directed by Diqui James, will return to the Daryl Roth Theatre, previewing from April 15th, opening on April 22nd. The producers are Ozono Producciones and S2BN Entertainment. The Daryl Roth Theatre is located at 101 East 15th Street at Union Square.

Nedworks will stage Richard Ploetz's Versailles, a dark tale of a single mother and party girl fighting against desperate circumstances and dead-end relationships, with Charise Greene, Elizabeth Bell, Ron Bopst, Eric Chase, Drew Ledbetter, Charlie Moss and Nick Ruggeri, directed by Ian Streicher, opening at Theater for the New City on February 22nd. Theater for the New City is located at 155 1st Avenue, between 9th and 10th Streets.

Kairos Italy Theater will stage Franca Valeri's Tosca And The Two Downstairs, in a translation by Natasha Lardera, a satirical, behind-the-scenes sister-story to Puccini's Tosca, with Laura Caparrotti and Marta Mondelli, directed by Laura Caparrotti, at the Dicapo Opera Theatre, from March 20th. The Dicapo Opera Theatre is located at 184 East 76th Street, between 3rd and Lexington Avenues.

Axis Theatre Company will stage Nothing On Earth (Can Hold Houdini), written and directed by Randall Sharp, examining Houdini's driven crusade to expose fraudulent mediums and his crossing paths with the avid spiritualist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, with Spencer Aste, Brian Barnhart, David Crabb, George Demas, Brian Linden and Lynn Mancinelli, previewing from February 27th, opening on March 1st. The Axis Theatre is located at 1 Sheridan Square, between West 4th Street and Washington Place.

The Rumour Machine says: that Oprah Winfrey and Audra McDonald may star in a Broadway revival of Marsha Norman's 'night, Mother, in which a mother struggles to stop her daughter from committing suicide, directed by George C Wolfe, in the 2015/2016 season, courtesy of producer Scott Sanders. The Rumour Machine grinds on.
