Backstage Whispers overheard by Richard Andrews

Lanie Robertson's Lady Day At Emerson's Bar And Grill, a one woman bioplay with music about Billie Holiday, performed by Audra McDonald, directed by Lonny Price, will preview from March 25th at the Circle in the Square Theatre, with an official opening on April 13th. The producers are Jeffrey Richards and Jerry Frankel.

The musical On The Town, book and lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, music by Leonard Bernstein, based on an idea by Jerome Robbins, the story of 3 sailors on 1 day leave in New York in 1944, directed by John Rando, with choreography by Joshua Bergasse, will open in October at what is currently the Foxwoods Theatre, rechristened as the Lyric Theatre, the name of the former theatre that stood on the site. The design team comprises scenery by Beowulf Boritt, costumes by Jess Goldstein, lighting by Jason Lyons, and sound by Kai Harada. The producers are Howard and Janet Kagan

Classic Stage Company's 2014/2015 season will include the musical Allegro, book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein, music by Richard Rodgers, about a man who follows in the footsteps of his father as a local doctor, but is tempted by fortune and fame at a big-city hospital, directed by John Doyle, in October; William Shakespeare's Hamlet, in which a prince exacts revenge on his uncle for murdering his father, stealing the crown and marrying his mother, with Peter Sarsgaard, in January; and Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, the story of a man who sells his soul to the devil in return for knowledge and power, with Chris Noth, directed by Andrei Belgrader, in April. Classic Stage Company is located at 136 East 13th Street, between 3rd and 4th Avenues.

Culture Project will stage the solo plays The Real Americans, written and performed by Dan Hoyle, developed with and directed by Charlie Varon, and The Junket, written and performed by Mike Albo, directed by David Schweizer, journalist based examinations of contemporary American society, playing in repertoire from March 13th at the Lynn Redgrave Theater. The Lynn Redgrave Theatre is located at 45 Bleecker Street, at Lafayette Street.

The musical Greed, book, music, and lyrics by Michael Roberts, featuring exploits that range from the Ponzi scheme of 1910 to the subtle sales pitches of contemporary retirement planners and mortgage bundlers, with Julia Burrows, Neal Mayer, James Donegan and Stephanie D'Abruzzo, directed by Christopher Scott, which played recently at The Playroom Theater, will transfer to New World Stages, previewing from March 19th, opening on April 3rd. The producer is The Tank. New World Stages is located at 340 West 50th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues.

Roundabout Theatre Company will present the Fiasco Theater production of the musical Into The Woods, book by James Lapine, music and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, in which characters from a number of fairytales don't live happily ever after, directed by Noah Brody and Ben Steinfeld, at the Lara Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre next winter. The Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre is located at 111 West 46th Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues.

The Public Theater will stage the premiere of the musical Hamilton, written by and featuring Lin-Manuel Miranda, inspired by Ron Chernow's biography of American Founding Father Alexander Hamilton, directed by Thomas Kail, from January 20th, with support from producers Jeffrey Seller, Sander Jacobs and Jill Furman. The Public Theater is located at 425 Lafayette Street, between Astor Place and East 4th Street.

Nylon Fusion Theatre Company will stage the premiere of Don Nigro's A Snowfall In Berlin, in which a detective investigates how an actress drowned in a bathtub while making a film about a woman who drowned in a bathtub, with Brandi Bravo, Don Carter, Stephanie Heitman, Tatyana Kot, Jessica Vera and Eric Percival, directed by Shaun Peknic, from March 12th, in repertoire with John Patrick Shanley's The Big Funk: A Casual Play, in which three friends wrestle with the state of constant fear, worry and discontent that pervades their lives, with Ivette Dumeng, Meghan Jones, Josh Sienkiewicz, Jacob Troy and Paul Walling, directed by Lori Kee, from March 13th, at Teatro LaTea at the Clemente Soto Velez Center. The Clemente Soto Velez Center is located at 107 Suffolk Street, between Delancy and Rivington Streets.

The Ensemble Studio Theatre will stage Carla Ching's Fast Company, about a family of Asian American con artists on the trail of a million dollar comic book, with Stephanie Hsu, Chris Larkin, Moses Villarama and Mia Katigbak, directed by Robert Ross Parker, previewing from March 12th, opening on March 20th. The Ensemble Studio Theatre is located at 549 West 52nd Street, between 10th and 11th Avenues.

The Rumour Machine says: that the musical Fiddler On The Roof, book by Joseph Stein, music by Jerry Bock, lyrics by Sheldon Harnick, telling the story of a milkman and his family in a rural Russian village during the turbulent times at the turn of the 20th century, directed by Bartlett Sher, with choreography by Hofesh Shechter, is looking for a Broadway return in the fall of 2015, courtesy of producers Jeffry Richards and Jerry Frankel. The Rumour Machine grinds on.
