Backstage Whispers overheard by Richard Andrews

David Mamet's China Doll, a two hander in which a billionaire about to go into retirement takes one last phone call that changes everything, with Al Pacino, directed by Pam MacKinnon, will premiere on Broadway at a Shubert theatre yet to be announced next October. The producers are Jeffrey Richards, Jerry Frankel and Steve Traxler.

Ruthless! The Musical, book, lyrics and direction by Joel Paley, music by Marvin Laird, which spoofs the genre of backstage musicals and films, with Kim Maresca, Tori Murray, Katie Sparer, Delaney Arizala, Rita McKenzie and Marvin Laird, will return to Stage 72 from October 23rd. Stage 72 is located at 158 West 72nd Street, between Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.

Dreamscape Theatre will stage Ricardo Perez Gonzalez's In Fields Where They Lay, a play with music that commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Christmas Truce in World War 1, with Stephen James Anthony, Spencer Davis Milford, Nicholas Carter, Jeff Gonzales, Zack Calhoon, Joe Kolbow and Equiano Mosieri, directed by Brad Raimondo, playing at the New Ohio Theatre from December 5th. The New Ohio Theatre is located at 154 Christopher Street, between Greenwich and Washington Streets.

Forthcoming productions by Lincoln Center Theater will include Douglas Carter Beane's Show For Days, a semiautobiographical play in which a teenager is introduced to the world of theatre through his local community group, directed by Jerry Zaks, previewing from June 4th at the Mitzi Newhouse Theater, opening on June 29th; and the musical Preludes, book, music and lyrics by Dave Malloy, a fantasia set in the hypnotized mind of Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninov following the disastrous premiere of his first symphony, directed by Rachel Chavkin, previewing from May 23rd at the Claire Tow Theater, opening on June 15th.

Second Stage Theatre will present the recent Atlantic Theater Company production of Stephen Adly Guirgis's Between Riverside And Crazy, in which an ex-cop and his ex-con son struggle to hold on to one of the last rent stabilised apartments on Riverside Drive, with Stephen McKinley Henderson, Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan and Rosal Colon, directed by Austin Pendleton, previewing from January 16th, opening on February 11th. Second Stage Theatre is located at 305 West 43rd Street, at 8th Avenue.

On The Casting Couch: Alice Ripley, Taylor Richardson, Virginia Ann Woodruff and Nancy Hess will feature in the Irish Repertory Theatre production of the Duane Poole-Larry Grossman-Carol Hall musical adaptation of Truman Capote's A Christmas Memory, opening at the DR2 Theatre on December 4th.

Me, My Mouth And I, an autobiographical solo play written and performed by Joy Behar, will preview from November 6th at the Cherry Lane Theatre, opening on November 23rd. The Cherry Lane Theatre is located at 38 Commerce Street, between Barrow and Bedford Streets.

Nathaniel Sam Shapiro's The Erlkings, exploring the inner lives of Columbine High School killers Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, with Em Grosland, James Scully, Blair Baker, Matthew Bretschneider, Jonathan Iglesias, Reynaldo Piniella and Kayla Wickes, directed by Saheem Ali, will preview from November 9th at the Beckett Theatre at Theatre Row, opening on November 16th. Theatre Row is located at 410 West 42nd Street, between 9th and 10th Avenues.

The 92nd Street Y's 45th Lyrics & Lyricists series celebrating the American Songbook will include A Good Thing Going, exploring the Stephen Sondheim/Harold Prince collaboration, hosted by David Loud, January 10th-12th; a yet to be announced event February 7th-9th; New York: Songs Of The City, celebrating NYC life with songs by Cole Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Leonard Bernstein and more, hosted by Deborah Grace Winer, March 21st-23rd; Here's To The Leading Ladies, featuring songs sung by the women of Hollywood movie musicals, hosted by Charles Busch, May 2nd-4th; and To Life! Celebrating 50 Years Of Fiddler On The Roof, hosted by Sheldon Harnick, May 30th-June 1st. Concerts are in the Kaufmann Concert Hall, at the 92nd Street Y, which is located at 92nd Street and Lexington Avenue.

The musical The Love Note, book, music and lyrics by Gail Phaneuf, which explores the trials of being 'the new kid,' in school, learning the ropes of self-reliance and survival techniques that carry into adulthood, with Nick Anastasia, Blair Heather Anderson, Megan Beard, Mark Blowers, Kathleen Cameron, Adam Cavalieri, Grace Olson-Davidson, Jeff Deglow, Lauren DeFilippo, Jessie Fallow, Kelsey Flynn, Rosanne Gully, Sam Harvey, Katie Rose Ialacci, Kevin Ray Johnson, Bethany McCall, Katie Mebane, Jenna Perez, Courtney Rada, Justin Selig and Ariella Serur, directed and choreographed by Russell Garrett, will open at Actors Temple Theatre on November 11th. The Actors Temple Theatre is located at 339 West 47th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues.

Theater for the New City will stage the premiere of Claudio Angelini's My Wife In A Chador, a dark comedy in which, following a mugging, a Mayoral candidate's wife adopts the chador and his opponent is funded by a man with terrorist ties, directed by Stephan Morrow, previewing from November 6th, opening on November 8th. Theater for the New City is located at 155 1st Avenue at 10th Street.
